Mitsubishi Rayon to Build Methacrylic Acid Facility in U.S.

Mitsubishi Rayon says its wholly owned subsidiary Lucite International (Southampton, U.K.) will construct a new plant for the manufacture of methacrylic acid (MAA) at Lucite’s manufacturing site at Beaumont, TX. Lucite will invest about $36 million to construct the new plant, which will have a capacity to produce 23,000 m.t./year of MAA. Construction of the plant is tentatively scheduled to begin in July 2011, and the plant is expected to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2012. MAA, which is produced using acetone cyanohydrin as its main ingredient...
