Lanxess produces PBT from biobased BDO

Lanxess and biobased chemicals firm Genomatica (San Diego) announced today that Lanxess has run a successful, 20-m.t. polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) production campaign using Genomatica's biobased 1,4-butanediol (BDO). Lanxess says the BDO fully complied with the company's "demanding" specifications for petroleum-based PBT.  "The properties and the quality of the resulting biobased PBT are fully equivalent to conventional petro-based PBT with regard to all tested parameters," it says.
