Dow to Boost Capacity in West Virginia

Dow Chemical says it will increase capacity of hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) at its Institute, WV plant by 5 million lbs/year. Dow did not disclose existing HEC capacity. The project also includes certain process improvements that are expected to yield annual savings of about $3 million, Dow says. Dow did not disclose the investment amount, but says it is “significant.” The expansion will take place in phases, and be completed during the first half of 2009, Dow says. The additional HEC capacity will be used primarily in paint and oilfield applications...
