China Files WTO Complaint Challenging U.S. Countervailing Duties

China says it has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO; Geneva) challenging U.S. countervailing duties on imports of Chinese products including chemicals, paper, solar cells, and steel. Countervailing duties are trade duties administered by WTO as a way to offset the impact that one country’s government subsidies are deemed to have on the relative competitiveness of other nations’ products. China’s announcement came on the heels of an announcement by the White House that it plans to challenge China’s export policies...
