Ashland Posts Income Decline for Distribution, Performance Materials, and Water Treatment

Ashland’s operating income from its performance materials, distribution, and water technologies businesses totaled $31 million for its fiscal second quarter ended March 31. This is a 37% drop compared to the year ago period. Combined sales for those businesses rose 8%, to $1.7 billion. Operating income fell 14%, to $19.5 million in the performance materials business because of weak margins in the specialty polymers and adhesives business unit. Sales rose 6%, to $$398 million.
