Regions :: North America :: Mexico Court Finds USDA Erred in Assessment of Monsanto Sugar Beet8:32 AM MDT | September 23, 2009 | Kara Sissell A federal court has ruled that the USDA did not properly assess the environmental impacts of Monsanto’s genetically modified (GM) sugar beet. The Center for Food Safety and Earthjustice filed the lawsuit in January 2008 to challenge the Bush administration’s decision to approve the sugar beets on the grounds it failed to conduct the required assessments. The environmental groups argue the sugar beet, which is wind pollinated, will inevitably cross-pollinate with other crops in the same area, reducing the ability of growers to cultivate non-GM crops...
