Chemicals sector rail traffic rises 8.3%

North American chemicals sector rail traffic rose 8.3% year-on-year (YOY) during the week ended 6 April, to 43,838 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). US traffic was up 6.5%, to 30,475 cars. Canadian traffic rose 12.5%, to 11,963 cars, while Mexican traffic increased 15.6%, to 1,400 cars. Traffic declined from the prior week’s totals, though it rose in Canada.   Overall, North American freight rail traffic increased 5.4% YOY during the week ended 6 April, to 377,462 cars.
