Celanese Closes Mexican VAM Unit

Celanese says it will permanently shut its 115,000-m.t./year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) production unit at Cangrejera, Mexico by the end of February. Celanese cites “the significant change” in the global economic environment, the cost structure of its VAM unit operations in Cangrejera, and anticipated lower customer demand. The company says it can meet customer demand from its facilities in Asia, Europe, and North America.
