Regions :: North America :: Canada Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Rises 6.2%2:17 PM MDT | August 26, 2010 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 6.2% year-on-year last week, to 44,021 cars, the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington) reported. U.S. traffic was up 4.7%, to 28,821 cars. Canadian traffic rose 10.3%, to 13,969 cars, while Mexican traffic fell 1.6%, to 1,231 cars. Traffic fell from the prior week's totals. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 7.4% last week, to 381,289 cars. U.S. intermodal traffic was the highest yet for 2010, eclipsing last week's total, AAR says.
