Regions :: North America :: Canada Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Rises 4.4%3:34 PM MDT | September 15, 2011 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 4.4% year-on-year for the week ended September 10, to 39,258 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was up 0.4%, to 27,170 cars. Canadian traffic rose 14.5%, to 10,842 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 17.3%, to 1,246 cars. Traffic fell from the prior week's totals, mostly due to the Labor Day holiday in the U.S. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 1% year-on-year last week, to 367,114 cars, AAR says.
