Regions :: North America :: Canada Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Declines 5%3:11 PM MDT | May 31, 2012 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America declined 5% year-on-year during the week ended May 26, to 40,732 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was down 1.7%, to 30,079 cars. Canadian traffic fell 17.3%, to 9,435 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 37%, to 1,218 cars. Traffic fell from the prior week’s totals, though it rose in the U.S. Overall, North American freight rail traffic fell 1% year-on-year during the week ended May 26, to 373,165 cars.
