NatureWorks, Calysta Energy enter R&D to produce lactic acid via methane fermentation

Calysta Energy (Menlo Park, CA) and NatureWorks (Minnetonka, MI) have entered into an exclusive, multiyear collaboration to research and develop a practical, world-scale production process for fermenting methane—a potent greenhouse gas (GHG)—into lactic acid, the building block for polylactic acid (PLA) biobased polymers; lactide intermediates; and other polymers made from renewable materials, Calysta announced today.
