IHS WPC 2014: Naphtha will remain the key feedstock but NGLs continue to gain ground

Naphtha will remain the primary petrochemical feedstock in Asia and worldwide; production of naphtha will grow with petrochemical demand and increased running of refineries, said Kurt Barrow, v.p. at IHS Chemical, in a presentation to the recent IHS World Petrochemical Conference (WPC) in Houston. Natural gas liquids (NGL)—ethane, propane, and butane—have been growing at a strong pace, up 67% since 2005, and rising output is exceeding "base demand" from traditional markets such as heating and cooking, Barrow said.
