Explosion at Pemex headquarters kills 14 and injures dozens

An explosion at the headquarters of state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex; Mexico City) at about 4 pm local time on 31 January has killed at least 14 people and injured another 100, press reports say. The cause of the explosion is not yet known and is under investigation. Interior minister Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong says the death toll may rise. The explosion occurred in the basement of an annex building adjacent to the company’s 54-storey tower, reports say.
