EU Advances Approval of Two Monsanto GM Corn Products

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has paved the way for Monsanto to renew its authorization for the insect protected corn, the only genetically modified (GM) product approved for cultivation in the EU.  EFSA says its review of recent scientific data has found the Yieldgard corn product as “safe as its conventional counterpart with repspect to potential effects on human and animal health.” The product, also sold as MON 810, received initial approval in 1998 and EU law requires reauthorization every 10 years.
