Dow Corning swings to a fourth-quarter loss

Dow Corning, a 50-50 joint venture between Dow Chemical and Corning, reported a net loss of $101 million for the quarter ended 31 December 2012 compared with a gain of $260 million in the year-ago period, as the company's Hemlock Semiconductor jv continued to be challenged by significant oversupply in polysilicon and the threat of potential tariffs on US polysilicon sold in China.
