BASF breaks ground on formic acid plant at Geismar site

BASF says it has broken ground on a previously announced, world-scale production plant for formic acid at the company's manufacturing site in Geismar, LA, on 23 October. The plant will have a production capacity of 50,000 m.t./year of formic acid and will create 20 permanent jobs. The facility is expected to be complete by mid-2014. BASF's formic acid plant at Geismar will be the only one of its kind in North America and will allow the company to better serve strategic markets in North and South America, the company says.
