Samsung Engineering Bags $1.2-Billion Fertilizer Contract in Abu Dhabi

Samsung Engineering has won a $1.2-billion lump-sum turnkey contract from Ruwais Fertilizer Industries, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc), for its previously announced Fertil 2 fertilizer complex at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. The complex will be designed to produce 2,000 m.t./day of ammonia and 3,500 m.t./day of urea and will begin production in January 2013. Uhde, acting as a subcontractor to Samsung, will provide its ammonia technology. Stamicarbon, recently acquired by Maire Tecnimont, will supply its urea process.
