Saudi Arabia begins commercially producing acrylic acid, esters, and superabsorbents

Commercial production at the Jubail, Saudi Arabia integrated acrylic acid, esters, and superabsorbents complex began today, investors in the plants have announced. The acrylic acid manufacturing complex is owned by Saudi Acrylic Monomers Co. (Samco), a joint venture in which Saudi Acrylic Acid Co. (SAAC) has 75% and Dow Chemical the balance. SAAC is a tie-up between Sahara Petrochemicals and Tasnee. The complex is designed to produce 145,000 m.t./year of acrylic acid; 85,000 m.t./year of glacial acrylic acid; and 145,000 m.t./year of butyl acrylate. Dow reported...
