Regions :: Middle East :: Kuwait Kuwait Okays Al Zour Refinery Project4:10 AM MDT | June 28, 2011 | Natasha Alperowicz Kuwait has approved the construction of a new oil refinery with an estimated cost of $14.5 billion. The Al Zour refinery project, a revival of plans scrapped in March 2009, could eventually lead to the construction of the third petrochemical complex in the country. The refinery will have design capacity of 615,000 bbl/day and it will add to the country’s three existing refineries, the 270,000 bbl/day Mina Abdulla, 466,000 bbl/day Mina Al Ahmadi, and 190,000 bbl/day Mina Al Shuaiba, operated by Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation.
