Report: Iran launches Mideast's first MEK production unit

Iran has launched production of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) in the Mahsharhr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone in the country's southwestern province of Khuzistan, according to a report from Iranian online media channel PressTV. The unit, the first in the Mideast to produce MEK, has an annual capacity of 20,000 m.t., the report says. Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated a gas condensate unit at a separate petrochemical site in Khuzistan capable of producing about 2.7 million m.t./year of ethane, propane, and butane.
