Iran is preparing to become a major player in international petrochemical markets, said speakers at the 8th Iran Petrochemical Forum (IPF), held recently in Tehran. National Petrochemical Co. (NPC; Tehran), the country’s biggest producer, has announced plans to invest a combined $30 billion during Iran’s fourth and fifth five-year plans, ending in 2015, to realize the country’s ambitions (CW, May 26, p. 15).
