Israel's finance minister opposes PotashCorp bid for ICL

Yair Lapid, Israel's new finance minister, says he will oppose any attempt by Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan to acquire Israel Chemicals Ltd. (ICL; Tel Aviv). Lapid said he "adamantly opposes" PotashCorp's intended acquisition of ICL, in comments widely quoted in press reports this week. PotashCorp's longstanding interest in taking over ICL reemerged last fall when senior PotashCorp executives held talks with senior officials in the previous Israeli government about a possible deal.
