Dow Holds JV Talks with IPIC, Aramco; Plans to Quit Optimal?

Speculation is mounting over which potential partners could replace Petrochemical Industries Co. (PIC; Safat, Kuwait) in K-Dow, a proposed 50-50 joint venture with Dow Chemical that collapsed late last year (CW, Jan. 5, p. 13). A dialogue between Dow and PIC continues, and Dow is in “parallel negotiations with two other state-owned resource owners on an equivalent basis for the similar scope of the K-Dow venture,” Dow CEO Andrew Liveris told investors and analysts recently.
