Tata Chemicals Hikes Soda Ash Capacity in the U.S.

Tata Chemicals will spend more than $100 million to expand soda ash capacity at its General Chemicals subsidiary in the U.S., says P.K. Ghose, CFO of Tata Chemicals. General Chemicals, with present capacity of 2.5 million m.t./year of soda ash, is already undergoing expansion to lift capacity by 100,000 m.t./year. The remaining tonnage will be added over a period of three years, Ghose says. The company is also planning to boost domestic salt capacity by 200,000 m.t./year by March 2012.
