India Aims for Self-Sufficiency in Urea Production

India aims to achieve self-sufficiency in urea production in the next five years, Pratibha Patil, president of India said in her address to the Indian Parliament on March 12. Current annual demand for urea in India is about 28 million m.t., of which 22 million m.t. is produced domestically, reports say. The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (New Delhi) had announced earlier its plan to reactivate eight closed urea plants across the country.
