Australia's Carbon Tax Comes into Force

Australia has introduced its previously announced carbon tax, and companies with emissions of more than 25,000 m.t./year are liable to pay the tax. More than 500 of Australia’s biggest emitters will pay A$23/m.t. ($24/m.t.) for their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.  The Australian government has committed to cutting emissions by at least 5% by 2020 compared with 2000 levels.
