Uralkali confirms detention of CEO; Russia warns Belarus over arrest

Uralkali (Berezniki Russia) has confirmed that its CEO Vladislav Baumgertner on 26 August was taken into custody in Minsk, Belarus in accordance with investigative procedures launched by the Belarussian authorities. Baumgertner was visiting Minsk at the invitation of Belarussian prime minister, Mikhail Myasnikovich. “Uralkali refutes any allegation of wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Baumgertner or any other manager of Uralkali,” the company said in a statement. Russia today warned Belarus that the arrest could affect relations between the two countries...
