Regions :: Eastern Europe :: Russia Russia Posts Big Chemical Industry Earnings12:15 PM MDT | July 27, 2007 | Natasha Alperowicz Minpromenergo (Moscow), Russia’s ministry of industry and energy, says that the Russian chemical industry generated total net profits of ruble93.5 billion ($3.5 billion) in 2006, about one-third of which are being channeled for reinvestment. Chemicals output grew 1.9% in Russia last year, compared with 2005. Russia produced 16.2 million m.t. of fertilizers in 2006, 3% less than in the previous year. The decline was due mainly to delayed export contracts and to flooding at the Uralkali (Berezniki) potash mine last October. The local agriculture sector...
