Lukoil to resume olefins production at Stavrolen in January, will import propylene

Lukoil (Moscow) has announced that it plans to complete repairs and resume production at its Stavrolen cracker at Budyennovsk, Russia, in January next year, following a fire at the plant on February 26. An investigation into the incident has concluded that the fire, which occurred in the gas separation and ethylene plant, was caused by “depressurization of the aluminum heat exchanger due to the fracture of a corrugated plate in the left heat-exchange section,” the company says.   The cracker, designed to produce 350,000 m.t./year of ethylene and...
