Appointment of new Uralkali CEO heightens speculation about revival of potash cartel

Uralkali (Berezniki, Russia), a leading global producer of potash, has announced that a board meeting held on 23 December confirmed Dmitry Osipov as its new CEO, effective 24 December. Osipov replaces Vladislav Baumgertner, who is under house arrest in Moscow. The appointment follows months of uncertainty on the future direction of Uralkali after its decision in July to pull out of the Belarusian Potash cartel.
