Floods force chemical firms to halt production in Czech Republic

Spolana (Neratovice, Czech Republic) has suspended production at almost all of its plants at Neratovice because of flooding, a report by the Czech News Agency (CTK) says. The measures are necessary because the site's sewage-treatment plants are not working, the report adds. Spolana moved all hazardous chemical products, including chlorine, from the site to a safe location on 2 June to avoid the products coming into contact with floodwater. Neratovice is on the Elbe River, which has broken its banks following days of heavy rain that has caused widespread flooding...
