EU proposes stronger legislation to tackle illegal waste shipments

The European Commission says it is proposing stronger legislation on national inspections of waste shipments to ensure that all member states of the European Union have similar levels of control. About one-quarter of waste shipments sent from the European Union to developing countries in Asia and Africa are thought to contravene international regulations, and the waste is often dumped or mismanaged.
