EFSA: EU neonicotinoid conclusions not affected by UK study on bumble bees

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) has identified what it says are several weaknesses in a study published by the UK Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA); the study suggests that neonicotinoid pesticides do not have a major effect on bumblebee colonies under field conditions. The study does not affect EFSA conclusions, published in January, regarding risks for bees related to the use of the neonicotinoid pesticides thiamethoxam, clothianidin, and imidacloprid, EFSA says.
