Chinese government demands better chemical transportation safety

The Chinese government says that the Office of Work Safety Commission of the State Council, the country’s cabinet, has demanded strict safety standards when transporting dangerous chemicals. The move follows an accident earlier this month involving a tanker transporting methanol in a tunnel linking the Chinese cities of Jincheng and Jiyuan. The accident in the tunnel resulted in the death of 31 people, caused seriously injury to 12 others, and nine people remain missing, the government says.
