China to punish 72 companies, some petchem firms, for violating environment protection regulations

The Chinese government says that the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP; Beijing) has named 72 companies, which will be punished, for violating regulations related to environmental protection. The companies include PetroChina's Hohhot Petrochemical subsidiary. These companies have committed 91 offenses, such as irregular use of pollution treatment facilities, excessive discharge of pollutants, and improper handling of hazardous waste, the government says. The illegal practices were uncovered during a campaign initiated by MEP last May to overhaul companies...
