China to Crack Down on Food Safety

The Chinese government says that the country’s Supreme People’s Court (SPC; Beijing) will crack down on malpractices, bribery, and abuse of power in food safety cases. Chinese courts at all levels heard 173 cases and sentenced 255 people in relation to the production and sale of unsafe food between January and October 2011, according to the SPC. China has seen a growing number of food safety cases in recent years with increasing difficulties for investigation, the government says.
