China Files WTO Complaint Challenging U.S. Countervailing Duties

China says it has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO; Geneva) challenging U.S. countervailing duties on imports of Chinese products including chemicals, paper, solar cells, and steel. Countervailing duties are trade duties administered by WTO as a way to offset the impact that one country’s government subsidies are deemed to have on the relative competitiveness of other nations’ products.
