Bayer MaterialScience closes PC sheet plants at Darmstadt, Beijing; sells businesses in Australia, New Zealand

Bayer MaterialScience has decided to close its polycarbonate (PC) sheet facility at Darmstadt, Germany as part of a worldwide consolidation of its PC sheet business. Bayer MaterialScience currently produces PC sheets at 10 locations. The PC sheet businesses in Australia and New Zealand as well as the Laserlite brand name are being sold, Bayer says. PC sheet production in China was consolidated at the Guangzhou site, and the Beijing site was closed. These decisions are in response to global overcapacity and insufficient demand, Bayer says.
