China Invites Foreign Firms to Form Rare Earth Joint Ventures

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China (MIIT; Beijing) has invited foreign companies to form rare earth joint venture projects with Chinese firms, say press reports. The focus will be on environment-friendly projects. China’s rare earth deposits account for only 35% of the world’s total, but China remains the world’s largest rare earth exporter and it accounts for more than 96% of global supplies of the 17 rare earth metals.
