Orica Plant Shut Following Sodium Chromate Leak

Orica (Melbourne) says that following an incident on August 8, 2011 at the company’s production site at Kooragang Island, New South Wales (NSW), Australia, a small amount of diluted airborne sodium chromate was released, traces of which have been found in western parts of the adjacent Stockton neighbourhood. Orica says it notified the office of environment and heritage (OEH) on August 9, when the company identified that a chemical of concern had been released offsite.
