Sonatrach-OCI JV starts production at ammonia-urea complex in Algeria

Sorfert Algérie, a fertilizer joint venture between Sonatrach (Algiers) and OCI (Cairo) has commenced commercial production at Arzew, Algeria, OCI announced. The jv's complex has capacity to produce 800,000 m.t./year of merchant ammonia and 1.2 million m.t./year of urea. The full ramp-up of the two production lines, and the start of exports, are due by the end of this month, OCI says. The relationship between Sonatrach and OCI is contentious, which is why no official inauguration ceremony was held for the jv complex, according to local news source Maghreb...
