Regions :: Africa Tata Delays Building African Plant Amid Environmental Criticism10:19 AM MST | November 10, 2008 | Lindsey Bewley Tata Chemicals (Mumbai) says it will postpone construction of a soda ash manufacturing plant in northern Tanzania near Lake Natron, due to strong opposition by environmental groups that say the plant would disrupt the mineral balance of the lake and the breeding grounds of Africa’s Lesser Flamingo. Tata will wait for the Tanzanian government, which was to invest $500 million in the project, “to work on the opposition raised by environmentalists” and obtain clearance, local media reports say.
