Intermediates Markets Pick Up in New Year

After a month becalmed over the holidays, intermediates markets roared out of the gate in the first half of January with gainers running the table. The only exception was January ortho-xylene contracts, which rolled from December. However, producers immediately nominated hefty increases for February: 9 cts/lb in the U.S. and a comparable €150/m.t. in Europe. Most of the rest of the market saw similar scale increases.
