European Ethylene and Propylene Prices Increase

Late summer trading in major petrochemical markets was unusually active, with production and logistics problems plaguing North American styrene markets. Styrene prices hit a high of 70 cts/gal, up from a high of 67 cts/gal a week ago. Spot ethylene in northwest Europe pushed higher €30 ($37.7)/m.t.—hitting €1,260/CIF—continuing gains from recent weeks; but, buyers say they are only taking necessary volumes in an effort to blunt increases expected in the September contract.
