Spot benzene on the U.S. Gulf Coast shed a token 5 cts/gal, but toluene was traded higher in a widening trading range. Sellers lifed offers by 10 cts/gal but buyers were only willing to increase bids by half that. Mixed xylenes took a pounding, down an average of 40 cts/gal in what was called anxious business. Styrene staged a more orderly retreat of just 2 cts/lb. In Europe both benzene and toluene were winners, with both seeing a widening trading range as sellers pushed the envelope on offers $15-20/m.t.
