High demand causes jump in polymer prices

Polymer prices rose through the middle of January, as demand remained high. Producers say they were able to realize modest improvements in spot pricing, setting the table for January contract talks. In North America, linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) led the way higher with a gain of $130/m.t. High-density PE was more mixed, with blow-molding grade down $20/m.t. but injection higher $40/m.t. Polypropylene (PP) was reported with more uniform gains of $90/m.t. across types.
