Primary petrochemical prices were mixed this week, as crude oil prices moderated and supply-demand balances within the sector became the driver of pricing directions. Spot naphtha in northwest Europe was lower $30/m.t. as the likelihood of near-term military action in Syria abated. That reduction in feedstocks was icing on the cake for olefins producers, they say, as they secured an increase of €60/m.t. in the September propylene contract settlement in Europe.
