January intermediates contract settled, mixed spot prices

After a quiet start to the year, intermediates markets were coming back to life this week, participants say. The first contract settlement of the year was reported with European para-xylene (p-xylene) for January with an increase of €40/m.t. ($53). European ortho-xylene was agreed at a rollover from December. Spot p-xylene was off $30/m.t. in Europe and $50/m.t. in the United States, traders report.
