Intermediates Prices Move Higher

As market watchers anticipated, higher prices for primary petrochemicals cascaded downstream yielding sharply rising prices in most intermediates. Isomer xylene contract settlements in Europe led the way, with para-xylene being agreed for February at an increase of €102/m.t. Ortho-xylene kept pace with a settlement higher by €100/m.t. In the U.S. oX was concluded for February higher by 7 cts/lb. A similar increase is on the table for pX, but talks are not yet concluded, players say.
